The Bypass Glass Plug is an advanced barrier plug designed to optimize completion operations by integrating a self-filling and circulation bypass system with a disappearing glass barrier. This plug allows for fluid circulation and displacement during installation and then transitions into a V0-rated pressure barrier once the bypass is closed.
In the bypass family we offer two game-changing technologies: Deep Set Bypass Plug (DSBP) and the Disappearing Tubing Hanger Plug (DTHP). Both leverage TCO’s glass barrier technology to provide secure, V0-rated sealing – without the need for intervention.
Whether deep set or shallow set, our barrier plugs simplify completions, enhance safety, and reduce rig time in demanding subsea environments.
Remote Activation Function
The bypass plugs feature two main remote activation options: E-trigger activation and balanced counter activation. Both methods allow surface control of the tools, removing the need for direct downhole access.
E-trigger activation
The E-trigger system is programmed at the surface prior to deployment, allowing operators to set precise activation parameters such as time delays or specific pressure thresholds. During operations, the system monitors downhole conditions and responds only when the pre-set criteria are met, enabling controlled and reliable remote activation without the need for physical intervention. This enhances operational efficiency and minimizes risk by reducing the need for wireline or intervention runs.
Balanced counter activation
Works by responding to applied pressure in the well. The tool only activates once a set pressure cycle is reached, ensuring stability until the right moment.
For long suspension applications, the bypass plugs can be configured with a combination of E-trigger and balanced counter activation, alternatively dual e-trigger activation. These options provide added reliability and flexibility, supporting secure and remote operation over extended periods.
Deep Set Bypass Plug
Designed for open-ended completions, the Deep Set Bypass Plug enables fluid bypass while running in hole and closes remotely to create a robust V0 barrier. Once operations are complete, the plug is cycled open and disappears – leaving a full-bore ID ready for production or injection.

Our Disappearing Tubing Hanger Plug (DTHP) is a tubing-conveyed, shallow-set glass barrier plug, designed to serve as one of the primary barriers during the temporary suspension of subsea wells.
It integrates a bypass system allowing for autofill and pressure testing during deployment, remote barrier establishment by closing the bypass sleeve and a remote-opening mechanism to remove the barrier, making it ideal for intervention less completions in deepwater and offshore environments.
