The TCO Annulus Pressure Relief System (APRS) is an advanced well integrity solution designed to manage B-annulus pressure build-up caused by thermal expansion during well start-up and production. Integrated directly into the production casing, the APRS features a patented relief valve system, check valves, and an integrated filtration unit, all certified to ISO 14998 V0 standards.
Unlike conventional systems that continuously relieve pressure -potentially compromising well integrity -the APRS allows for controlled, one-way pressure relief from the B-annulus to the A-annulus. This ensures that the B-annulus pressure remains independent of downstream A-annulus pressure, enabling precise control over pressure levels.
Key benefits include prevention of casing collapse and burst, maintenance of the production tubing barrier, and simplified installation. The system is especially valuable in subsea wells where surface access is limited, and it replaces less reliable methods like burst disks or crushable foam
When the well is brought online, the temperature and pressure in the A and B-annulus increases. To relieve this, A is bled at the surface and once the absolute pressure in B reaches the pre-determined value, TCO’s patented system opens allowing the fluid to flow safely to A. When excessive pressure from B is relieved, the system will close and maintain the preset pressure. The APRS mitigates the issue with annular pressure build-up (APB), ensuring reliable bleed-off pressure while maintaining casing barrier and support.
