ABOUT US
Our Journey
TCO was founded in 1999 in Voss, Norway, originally known as Total Catcher Offshore – a company focused on retrieving lost or stuck equipment in oil wells.
Recognizing the need for more efficient solutions, TCO pioneered the development of the intervention-free laminated glass plug, revolutionizing well operations by eliminating the need for fishing operations.
OUR HISTORY
A story of growth
1999
Founded in Voss, Norway in 1999, TCO AS began its journey as Total Catcher Offshore, a niche fishing company focused on retrieving lost or stuck equipment from oil wells. Early on, the team recognized a transformative opportunity: rather than recovering equipment, what if it could simply disappear?
This insight led to the development of the intervention-free laminated glass plug, a breakthrough that would redefine well completion technology and position TCO as a global innovator in the oil and gas industry.
2001
In 2001, the company adopted the streamlined name TCO, marking a new chapter focused on advanced downhole solutions.
2004
TCO installed its first Tubing Disappearing Plug (TDP-1) on Statoil’s Norne field. The plug’s innovative design earned TCO the 2004 SME Innovation Award at the ONS conference, highlighting its contribution to reliability and environmental protection in well operations.
2008 - 2010
Launch of TDP-2, expanding market reach to the UK and Australia.
This period also saw the development of TDP-3, commissioned by BP Norway, alongside major facility upgrades and the acquisition of Bergen CNC to boost R&D capabilities.
2011-2014
Entry into Tubing Conveyed Perforating (TCP) services, becoming the first local supplier to ConocoPhillips Norway. In 2012, we completed the acquisition of UK-based i-Quip, adding chemical injection systems to the portfolio.
2014 saw the introduction of the Disappearing Tubing Hanger Plug (DTHP) and the B-Annulus Relief System, with installations across West Africa, the UK, and Norway.
2017 - 2022
Our dedication to developing solutions shows no sign of letting up. The Disappearing Tubing Hanger Plug is released, as is the Deep Set Bypass Plug. During this period we also qualified both the FA HPHT Chemical Injection Valve and the FN Retrievable Chemical Injection Valve to API 19CI CV1.
2023 - 2025
In 2023, the first API 19CI qualified retrievable injection valve was installed on the NCS. In 2025, the Autofill Sub – which allows tubing to self-fill with well fluid during run-in-hole, was released.
